CYBER ATTACK REASON FOR ANOTHER MICROSOFT OUTAGE

A recent global outage that affected Microsoft products has now been resolved. This was announced by Microsoft.

The outage also affected the software giant’s email service Outlook and its video game Minecraft.

It’s believed the outage was due to a cyber attack and the company’s failure to defend against it.

The incident lasted almost 10 hours and led to thousands of users reporting issues with their Microsoft services.

The latest outage comes less than two weeks after a massive outage that had a worldwide effect, leading to several healthcare and travel issues.

The first incident happened after a flawed software update by CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity firm.

In an update on Microsoft’s Azure website, the result of initial investigations was revealed.

“While the initial trigger event was a Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack… initial investigations suggest that an error in the implementation of our defences amplified the impact of the attack rather than mitigating it.”

The outage had an effect on NatWest bank clients in the United Kingdom and a ticketing payment system for the Dutch football team FC Twente.

Shares in Microsoft dropped by 2.7% today.
