SCRAPPED CARS ON THEIR WAY TO THE UKRAINE
Have you ever wondered what happens to cars that have been listed as damaging to the environment and scrapped?
While most South African cars end up in other African countries, the United Kingdom has decided to donate their cars.
In London, these cars form part of the capital’s Ultra Low Emission Zone (Ulez) scrappage scheme.
More than 50 vehicles have been donated to deliver aid to Ukraine. The fleet, which includes a red London bus packed to the brim with supplies from aid groups across England, left the Ukrainian Embassy on Thursday and is expected to arrive within four days.
The red bus will end up at the Peaceful Heaven charity in Kharkiv. It’ll be used to evacuate civilians from hot spots in and around the city.
The fleet’s final destination is the city of Kharkiv in the eastern part of the country. There, the vehicles will be distributed to local charities.
In London, the Ulez scrappage scheme allows locals to claim up to two thousand pounds for scrapping non-compliant cars.
Organisers of the charitable event encouraged Londoners to donate their cars if they’re in the position to do so.
