MAN TOO DRUNK TO REMEMBER ATTACKING DANISH PM

A Polish man has blamed alcohol for the reason why he can’t remember attacking Denmark’s prime minister.

The 39-year-old man, whose name can’t be made public due to legal restrictions, is currently on trial in Copenhagen. He is charged with violence against a public servant, and more than one count of indecent exposure. He is also charged with fraud relating to other incidents.

During the incident, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen suffered minor neck and shoulder injuries. After the punch in the shoulder, she could leave the scene without assistance.

At the time, she said she was “shaken” by the incident, but she was “fine”.

The man was quoted by AFP news agency as saying he was “standing face to face with Mrs Prime Minister, then I can’t remember anything else until I am arrested”.

The BBC reports that the man told the court he had been having a bad day when he came face to face with Frederiksen in Copenhagen in June, just two days before the European Parliament elections.

Although Frederiksen won’t be called as a witness in the trial, one of her bodyguards testified that the man came up to her on a busy street, said something that they couldn’t hear and then punched the Prime Minister with his fist on her shoulder.

If found guilty, he could face jail time and be deported back to Poland.
