DJOKOVIC WINS OLYMPIC GOLD
Novak Djokovic has won the gold medal at the Paris Olympic Games. He beat’s Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz 7-6(3) 7-6(2)in two hours at Roland Garros.
The Serb managed to win all four majors as well as an Olympic singles title. There are only four other players in the world who belongs to this exclusive club: Rafael Nadal; Andre Agassi; Serena Williams; and Steffi Graf.
Judging by his response after scoring the match point, this meant a lot to the 37-year-old who has now become the oldest man to win an Olympics singles gold medal.
With the Serbian flag in his hand, he said that he “couldn’t be prouder and happier”.
“Playing for Serbia has always been my utmost, real pleasure, my priority… I’m just so proud to be a part of an elite number of athletes that managed to win gold for their countries in their respective sports.”
The medal meant a lot to his country as well. It was only Serbia’s second medal during the Games.
Djokovic’s 21-year-old Spanish competitor had high praise for the gold medallist winner.
“In front of me, I had a really angry Novak. An impressive player today. His level was really, really high.”
