NEW R3 BILLION PRIVATE UNIVERSITY ON THE WAY

Backed by Solidarity, a new private Afrikaans university called Akademia will open its doors to students in 2028.

The ambitious project was announced by Kanton, a developer who also built Solidarity’s Sol-Tech technical college in Centurion.

The new university will be situated in Pretoria East on the Boschkop Road.

The academic curriculum will be offered across various departments and the R3 billion project will have enough space for 5,000 full-time undergraduate students as well as 1,500 postgraduate students.

Faculties based on campus include Economics and Management Sciences; Law; Teacher Education; Humanities; and Natural Sciences.

The campus will feature lecture rooms, office blocks, labs, an auditorium, specialised research spaces, a dining hall, various dining establishments, coffee shops, a student hub, a library, and accommodation options for staff.

Student accommodation will also be available. There will be eight residences, four for men and four for women. Collectively, the residences will provide 1,500 beds.

The sporting facilities available on the campus will include rugby, cricket, netball, tennis, athletics, hockey, swimming, and indoor sports.

An experimental farm is also planned for the Faculties of Natural Science and Agriculture.

The new campus will replace the two temporary Akademia campuses currently located in Centurion.
