NEW MISS SA MAKES HISTORY

Mia le Roux has been crowned as Miss South Africa 2024. The 28-year-old is from Oudtshoorn in the Western Cape.

The crowning took place during an elegant event at Sun Bet Arena at Time Square, Menlyn in Pretoria last night.

Mia made history as the first Miss South Africa with profound hearing loss. She was diagnosed with the condition when she was only a year old. A cochlear implant allows her to hear.

In her application for the pageant, it was already clear that Mia is a force to be reckoned with.

“I believe I deserve to win the title as I embody resilience, strength and the ubuntu spirit within South Africa. As a deaf woman with a cochlear implant, I represent a community that often goes unheard.”

The other nine finalists were Layla Zoubair, Lebohang Khoza, Onalenna Constantine, Ontshiametso Tlhopane, Nompumelelo Maduna, Kristen Khan, Taahira Katz, Palesa Lombard and Kebalepile Ramafoko.

Smile FM reports that Mia is no stranger to the world of beauty pageants. The Miss South Africa 2024 queen won titles such as Miss Struisie, Miss Garden Route, and Ultimate Wildcat. She also made it to the Top 5 in Miss Deaf South Africa.

“I am here to prove that, despite being differently-abled, it has not affected me. My journey is a testament to the power of dreams and determination we all possess,” said Mia.
