LEO DICAPRIO TESTIFIES IN CORRUPTION TRIAL
Hollywood heartthrob Leonardo DiCaprio testified in Washington on Monday in a political corruption trial.
DiCaprio is not accused of any wrongdoing in what is said to become one of the biggest embezzlement cases the world has ever seen.
The trial centres around Pras Michel and Low Take Jho and DiCaprio’s involvement as a witness stems from the money he received to make his Wolf Of Wall Street movie.
Michel, who is a former member of 90s hip hop band The Fugees is being accused of helping to secretly funnel money from Take Jho to influence politics in the United States.
On Monday, the 48-year-old actor gave details regarding parties thrown by Take Jho which is believed to have been funded with money stolen from Malaysia’s sovereign wealth fund.
“I understood him to be a huge businessman with many different connections in Abu Dhabi, Malaysia… a sort of prodigy in the business world, incredibly successful,” DiCaprio told the court.
DiCaprio met Take Jho for the first time at a party in Las Vegas in 2010. After that, he was regularly invited to parties hosted by the disgraced businessman. One of these parties started in Australia on New Year’s Eve where partygoers saw the clock strike midnight, hopped on a private plane and then landed in the United States to see the clock strike midnight for the second time.
