MAN DIVORCES WIFE FOR COOKING INSTANT NOODLES DAILY
There are various reasons why married couples get divorced. Cooking noodles for every meal on a daily basis might be one of the strangest reasons ever.
When asked what his reason for asking for a divorce was, an Indian man said he wants to divorce his wife for cooking him instant noodles daily.
The New Indian Express reports that principal district and sessions court judge ML Raghunath recounted the incident on 27 May at a press conference at a court in Malavadi, Vijayanagar in Mysuru, a city in the southwestern region of India.
The judge has aptly named it the “Maggi case” after the popular instant noodle brand.
According to the publication, the man said his wife would buy packets of Maggi noodles, and serve them to him for breakfast, lunch, and dinner throughout their marriage.
In line with India’s Special Marriage Act of 1954, divorce by mutual consent requires married couples in India to live separately for one year and agree to dissolve the marriage. After living apart for one year, the couple decided to get divorced.
Although India has a very low divorce rate, divorces are increasing by the year.
At the press conference, Raghunath highlighted this.
“Divorce cases are increasing drastically over the years. Couples have to stay together for at least a year before seeking a divorce. If there was no such law, there would be divorce petitions fled directly from wedding halls.”
