MASSIVE DATA BREACH IN US
A US location tracking firm that gathers info through smartphones has been hacked.
Gravy Analytics is a US location tracking firm that collects info through smartphones and then provides it to other companies and governments.
Apps linked to the breach include Spotify, Tinder, Mumsnet, Sky News and Citymapper.
Sky News reports that more than 10 terabytes of data is believed to have been stolen, with Russian-speaking hackers sharing a sample of the stolen information on a well-known hacking forum.
According to 404 Media, they were the first media outlet to report on the hack. They managed to see a sample of the data obtained.
404 Media reports that the data includes precise latitude and longitude coordinates of people’s phones, and the time at which the phone was there.
A specialist at a cyber security firm told Sky News that this is a new type of hack.
“It’s not just your personal details, it’s really quite intimate details about your life and what you’re doing and how you’re doing it.”
Gravy Analytics can check not only what you’re using your phone for, but also your exact location, whether it’s on the toilet or at your desk in the office.
