MUSK WANTS TO BUY OPENAI
The world’s richest man has shown interest in buying the company he once co-founded. And the offer was rejected.
Elon Musk’s offer of $97.4 billion offer to buy OpenAI was seen as an attempt by him to block the company from becoming a for-profit firm.
The irony is that Musk was the co-founder along with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, but the billionaire decided to leave the company in 2019. Altman and Musk have been fighting ever since and Musk took Altman and Microsoft to court last year for breach of contract.
The ChatGPT maker has shown interest in securing more capital so that it can stay ahead of the artificial intelligence (AI) race and they’ll take it from anyone but Musk.
OpenAI Chairman Bret Taylor spoke on behalf of the board when he said “OpenAI is not for sale, and the board has unanimously rejected Mr. Musk’s latest attempt to disrupt the competition. Any potential reorganisation of OpenAI will strengthen our non-profit and its mission to ensure AGI benefits all of humanity”.
In typical Musk fashion, the billionaire refused to let it slide and got his lawyer, Marc Toberoff to respond with a statement: “OpenAI is putting control of the for-profit enterprise up for sale, and said the move will “enrich its certain board members rather than the charity”.
