JANNIK SINNER BANNED FOR DOPING

The world’s number one men’s tennis player, Jannik Sinner has been banned for three months.

This comes after the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) announced that he has twice tested positive for a banned substance.

The ban has already started on 9 February and will end on 4 May. This means Sinner will be able to play in the French Open which will start in May.

The drug Sinner tested positive for is Clostebol.

According to the player, the positive tests stemmed from “inadvertent contamination of Clostebol” through treatment from his physiotherapist who had been applying an over-the-counter spray to their own skin to treat a small wound. Sinner said that the spray wasn’t used on Skinner.

The 23-year-old was able to avoid a suspension in 2024. In August, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) announced that it wasn’t his fault for testing positive when two samples were collected at Indian Wells in March last year. The samples were collected eight days apart and showed low levels of the anabolic steroid.

In a statement released today, WADA accepted that it wasn’t the player’s fault.

“WADA accepts that Mr Sinner did not intend to cheat and that his exposure to Clostebol did not provide any performance-enhancing benefit and took place without his knowledge as the result of the negligence of members of his entourage.”

Sinner accepted the ban and took responsibility for his team.
