MASS SHOOTING KILLS 10 IN SWEDEN
Sweden has just experienced the “worst mass shooting in Swedish history”.
Those were the words uttered by Sweden’s Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson following the attack that took place in Orebro on Tuesday.
A gunman opened fire at an adult education centre in Orebro, a city located 160 kilometres west of the country’s capital, Stockholm. Six people were injured and rushed to the nearby university hospital while 10 people were killed.
The gunman was also killed.
A 28-year-old student told CNN that they “heard bangs and loud screams. At first we didn’t understand what it was, but then we realized it could be gunfire”.
The adult students quickly reacted by barricading the classroom doors and taking cover underneath desks. They were inside the classroom for around an hour before police entered the classroom and evacuated all the students.
On Tuesday, police said they believe the perpetrator was acting alone, but that they can’t rule out the fact that there could be more perpetrators connected to the incident.
At this stage it’s still unclear what type of weapon the gunman used.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said, “we’ve seen brutal, deadly violence against completely innocent people – this is the worst mass shooting in Swedish history”.
