MAN VISITS 42 MUSEUMS IN LESS THAN 12 HOURS, NEW RECORD
A British man has earned himself the ultimate bragging rights among museum fans.
Ben Melham has been awarded the Guinness World Record for the most museums visited in 24 hours.
In 2024, Melham and his two children were discussing how hard it could be to break a world record. His two kids then challenged Melham to see if he could break the record at the time, which was 31.
In October, he started planning and decided to challenge the record in London.
“London’s museums contain millions of objects. Each of these can give you a moment to connect to a point in time, a particular person or wonder of nature.”
The 42-year-old then decided on a day and started the challenge at East London’s Museum of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society at 09:03. He ended the challenge successfully at the Royal Academy of Arts in Central London at 19:58.
It seems as if one Guinness world record isn’t enough for the operations consultant. Melham has announced that his new challenge is to break the world record for the most museums visited in one year.
As of last week, Melham has already visited 85 museums since he began his challenge in October 2024.
“Museums preserve and share the stories and objects that define us. They are spaces where we come together to reflect on our past, discuss our present, and imagine our future.”
