RAMAPHOSA GIVES GO AHEAD FOR THREE NEW BILLS
South Africa is set to prepare for the introduction of three new laws.
This comes after President Cyril Ramaphosa signed three new laws for the country.
The three new laws are the Housing Consumer Protection Bill; the Preservation and Development of Agricultural Land Bill; and the Marine Pollution (Prevention of Pollution of Ships) Amendment Bill.
The Housing Consumer Protection Bill aims for greater protection for housing consumers and support for new entrants in the home building industry. This new law will apply to builders and owner-builders. Before this law, owner-builders weren’t required to register with the National Home Builders Registration Council. Now they’ll have to.
The Preservation and Development of Agricultural Land Bill aims to ensure that agricultural land supports long-term food production and contributes to economic growth. According to the Government Gazette, the law also seeks to protect and preserve agricultural land and its productive use.
The Marine Pollution (Prevention of Pollution from Ships) Amendment Bill provides stronger measures to protect our oceans from ship-related pollution. This new law amends the Marine Pollution Act.
Only last week, Ramaphosa signed the Expropriation Bill into law. This bill caused the Democratic Alliance to share their frustration and anger with the Government of National Unity (GNU) because they said they were blindsided.
The Expropriation Bill allows the state to expropriate land for the public’s interest.
