TREVOR NOAH MAKES HISTORY AS GRAMMY PRESENTER

For the fifth year in a row, South African Trevor Noah will host the Grammy Awards.

This is the first time that a comedian has been asked to return so many times.

Before Noah was announced as the presenter, only music stars have had the privilege of presenting so many times. LL Cool J has hosted five times, John Denver six times, and Andy Williams has hosted seven times.

At first, organisers contemplated the idea of postponing the event due to the devastating wildfires that swept through Los Angeles, but it has since been announced that the event will go ahead as planned on 2 February.

The Recording Academy and CBS presented a joint statement about the fires and its impact on the community:

“This year’s ceremony carries a renewed sense of purpose, with additional efforts to support wildfire relief initiatives and honouring the bravery and dedication of first responders who risk their lives to protect ours.”

In light of this The Recording Academy together with MusiCares have pledged to donate $1 million to support individuals in the music profession who has been affected by the fires.

Beyonce leads the number of nominations with 11 thanks to her first country album called Cowboy Carter. Billie Eilish has been nominated in seven different categories and Taylor Swift in six.

The ceremony is set to take place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
