MICHELLE OBAMA TO SKIP INAUGURATION
Michelle Obama won’t be attending Donald Trump’s inauguration.
This was announced by the Office of Barack and Michelle Obama who didn’t give a reason for missing the president-elect being sworn in as the president of the United States.
Michelle was also notably absent at the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter. At the time, her office said she missed the funeral held at the Washington National Cathedral due to a “scheduling conflict”. It then became known that she was enjoying an extended holiday break in Hawaii.
Michelle, who turns 61 on Friday, has stayed out of the public eye more than usual since the death of her mother in May.
She mentioned the immense sense of grief she felt at the loss of her mother when she made a speech at the Democratic National Convention in August.
“I still feel her loss so profoundly. I wasn’t even sure I’d be steady enough to stand before you tonight.”
Trump’s inauguration will occur on Monday 20 January at the US Capitol building in Washington D.C.
President Joe Biden, his wife Jill, and former president Barack Obama are expected to attend.
