CAPE TOWN NAMED BEST CITY IN THE WORLD
Cape Town is the world’s favourite city. This was announced by Time Out.
Every year, the British-based publication does a survey asking participants questions about many different topics including nightlife, food, culture, affordability, happiness and the city's overall vibe.
Cape Town (second last year) surpassed New York as the world’s favourite city in Time Out’s seventh annual survey this year.
BusinessTech reports that Cape Town scored highly across 44 different criteria used in the survey, with 82% of Capetonians describing their city as beautiful, and 97% of locals saying it makes them happy.
No other South African city made the top 50. Marrakech in Morocco was ranked number 32 and Lagos in Nigeria was ranked 41.
James Vos, City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth said “this recognition speaks volumes about the incredible spirit of Cape Town”.
The official top 10 rankings are:
1. Cape Town
2. Bangkok
3. New York
4. Melbourne
5. London
6. New Orleans
7. Mexico City
8. Porto
9. Shanghai
10. Copenhagen
The results are based on opinions from 18,500 people from around the world.
