MEDVEDEV BREAKS CAMERA DURING AUS OPEN TANTRUM
The umpire warned Danill Medvedev after breaking a camera and his racket during an outburst on the court at the Australian Open.
The Russian tennis star used his racket to smash a camera attached to the net.
Even though he eventually beat Kasidit Samrej from Thailand in five sets, Medvedev’s frustration got the better of him in the third set.
Samrej was serving for the set when his shot clipped the net. This forced Medvedev into a last-minute change of direction as he sprinted towards the net.
He got there in time, but Samrej’s following shot eventually won him the set point.
That’s when the world number five Medvedev took his frustration out on the net and the camera and broke his racket.
The umpire gave Medvedev a warning.
During his post-match interview, the Russian didn’t mention his outburst but only had good things to say about his opponent.
“If he plays like this every match, his life can be good – money, girls, casino, whatever,” he joked.
“I wish he could play like this every match.”
Samrej was a wild card player in the tournament.
