SKI LIFT COLLAPSES IN SPAIN
Around 30 people were injured after a ski lift collapsed at the Astun ski resort in Spain.
Emergency officials were on hand soon after the incident and ten people were transferred to a local hospital. Two of them had maximum priority and another two required urgent attention.
The Aragon civil protection press office confirmed that there were no fatalities.
Part of the 15-metres above-the-ground ski lift collapsed after one of its pulleys became loose. As the ski lift fell to the ground, the chairs forming part of the ski lift were destabilized. Some of them were turned upside down.
The local Civil Guard shared a video showing dozens of people standing in the snow on a mountain. They were stuck after the ski lift broke.
The Spanish government’s delegate in Aragon, Fernando Beltran Blazquez, posted on X that by 15:00 local time, all those left stranded by the collapse of the ski lift were successfully evacuated.
The country’s president, Pedro Sanchez, said he was “shocked” by the news.
“All of our affection goes to the injured and their families.”
