TOURIST KILLED BY ELEPHANT IN KRUGER
An American tourist has been trampled to death by an elephant in the Kruger National Park (KNP).
The incident was confirmed by the South African National Parks (SANParks).
It took place at the Malelane Gate, near the Crocodile River.
“Today a tragic accident occurred when a tourist was charged and trampled by an elephant. This, regrettably, resulted in loss of life.
“South African National Parks officials were at the scene to attend to the matter and support the family. Events leading up to the incident are currently under investigation.”
JP Louw, a spokesperson for SANParks urged the public not to share any photos or videos on social media.
“Due to the sensitivity of this matter, we appeal to the public to refrain from posting any pictures or videos of the incident and victim
“SANParks board and management extend their heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased for the loss of their loved one.”
This is the second attack on a person in January. Earlier this month, a rhino injured a person when they attacked them in KwaZulu-Natal.
The patient was stabilised on-site and taken to a nearby hospital just outside Pietermaritzburg.
