NEIGHBOURHOOD IN FRANCE NAMED WORLD’S COOLEST NEIGHBOURHOOD

Every year, Time Out announces the coolest neighbourhood of the year. And this year, the bragging rights have been awarded to the Notre Dame du Mont in Marseille, France.

The city of Marseilles is located 775 km south of Paris and is the oldest city in France.

The quarter is known for its famous street art and nightlife. Locals told CNN Travel that the area “constantly evolves. The shops are authentic, and so are the people who work and live here”.

This year’s list was compiled by Time Out’s global network of writers and editors. They submitted their suggestions and then all the nominees were vetted against criteria including what Time Out calls the area’s “one-of-a-kind local flavour”.

Marie Dijon, a local restaurateur in Notre-Dame du Mont said “This is the neighbourhood where everything happens”.

Second place went to Mers Sultan in Casablanca, Morocco. The area was praised by Time Out for its arty authenticity in sight.

Third place was awarded to Pererenan on the Indonesian island of Bali. The area’s “pristine beaches, cosy cafes, eclectic shops, and a certain laidback cool, devoid of noise and traffic” were given as the reasons.

Kerns in Portland, Oregon was handed fifth place because of its small-town vibes, while the Stokes Croft and St. Paul’s neighbourhood in Bristol, England came in at number six.
