PESTO THE PENGUIN BECOMES INTERNATIONAL SENSATION

Who’d have thought that a chunky little penguin who doesn’t look like the typical penguin would take the world by storm?

Pesto lives in Melbourne’s Sea Life Aquarium and has affectionately been nicknamed a linebacker, absolute unit, and a fatty.

He doesn’t look like the other penguins. They’re black and white, he’s chocolatey brown. Add to that his more-than-usual fluff and the fact that he’s much taller than any of the other penguins, including his foster parents.

Pesto is also heavy, he weighs more than two average penguins combined.

When Pesto was born, he only weighed 200g.

But, things soon changed after that when he started to grow and people soon noticed that he was different. He soon went viral with TV coverage in both the United States and United Kingdom and people travelling from all over the world to see him with their own eyes.

At 22.5 kilograms, Pesto is now the biggest chick in the history of the aquarium.

Pesto was described as “a social butterfly who chatters away in a cute little whistle tone” by an aquarium representative.

“He tends to be the first one to kind of say hi (to keepers) and he also does respond to his name.”
