SARS ANNOUNCES TAX SEASON FILING DATES
The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has announced that the tax season for 2025 will open on 21 July.
Individual taxpayers (non-provisional) will run until 20 October 2025, while auto assessments will start two weeks before the opening of 21 July and also run until 20 October.
The filing season for provisional taxpayers will be slightly different, running from 21 July 2025 to 19 January 2026. This will also be the filing window for trusts.
This year, SARS said that all taxpayers who haven’t been processed through auto-assessments will be required to file their returns manually.
Taxpayers who earn less than R500,000 a year won’t be required to return a file if they meet the specific requirements set out for them.
Ensuring taxpayers have the correct banking details filed is something SARS has highlighted. Taxpayers are urged to ensure their details are correct and updated so that any refunds owed to an individual taxpayer can be processed efficiently and quickly.
“If you need to change your bank details, you must first check that your security contact details, email and cell phone number on the SARS eFiling are up to date.”
If your banking details haven’t changed since last year, SARS has some good news for you.
“There’s no need to do anything if your banking details and security contact details haven’t changed.”
