BARCELONA’S ATTACK TOO GOOD FOR ELCHE
Barcelona bounced back in style with a 3–1 win over Elche at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, keeping the pressure on league leaders Real Madrid.
The defending champions struck twice inside 11 minutes, setting the tone for a much-needed response after recent setbacks.
Teen sensation Lamine Yamal opened the scoring in the ninth minute with a superb top-corner finish, his first La Liga goal since August. Moments later, a defensive lapse from Elche allowed Ferran Torres to double the lead with a simple tap-in from close range.
Elche refused to fold and pulled one back just before half-time through Rafa Mir, who timed his run perfectly to beat the offside trap and curl home. The visitors even threatened a comeback, striking the woodwork twice and edging possession for long spells.
But Barcelona’s quality in attack proved decisive. Marcus Rashford, impressive throughout, made sure of the points in the 61st minute with a thunderous strike off the bar. Despite some defensive frailty, Barça showed enough control and cutting edge to see the game out comfortably.
The result lifts Barcelona back to second place, five points behind Madrid, while Elche’s spirited performance earned them plenty of respect but no reward.
