CAPE TOWN LIBRARIES: BRING BACK OUR BOOKS

The City of Cape Town appealed to the people of the city to bring back its library books.

According to the City, 40,000 items worth R4.6 million have not been returned within the stipulated time frame.

Every year, libraries across the city advertise their amnesty week where those that have borrowed books from their library and haven’t returned them on time, can return them to their local library without a penalty fee.

The popular kids’ series, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, makes up half of the 10 most overdue books.

Councillor Patricia van der Ross appealed to the general public to hand their books in.

“Our libraries have new books, so you could be missing out by not bringing the old ones back.”

The top 10 outstanding books are:

1.      The Getaway by Jeff Kinney.

2.      The Meltdown by Jeff Kinney.

3.      Physical Science, Grade 12 study guide.

4.      Cinderella by Susanna Davidson.

5.      Dog Days by Jeff Kinney.

6.      Double Down by Jeff Kinney.

7.      Accounting, Grade 12 study guide.

8.      Life of Pi by Yann Martel.

9.      English Literature, Grade 12 study guide.

10.   The Last Straw by Jeff Kinney.

“If you have read them a few times, please bring them back. I am sure they’re enjoyable, but now we need to share this enjoyment with other patrons,” van der Ross said.
