CAT TRAVELS 700KM IN NEIGHBOUR’S ENGINE

When five retired local women set off for their annual girls’ weekend last month, they didn’t realise that they’ve got an extra passenger with them.

Kooks the cat was taking a nap in a compartment in his neighbour Rose Prew’s car when the car suddenly drove off. It wasn’t just a short ride, no. The car took Rose and her four friends all the way from Cape Town in the Western Cape to St Francis Bay in the Eastern Cape.

Meanwhile, back home in Cape Town, Kooks’ owner Celeste Perry became worried when she couldn’t find Kooks. Luckily, Kooks wore a Bluetooth collar that Celeste was able to track and managed to follow from her home in Cape Town.

On the 700km route, Celeste noticed that Kooks stopped at five destinations. It was only when she sent a message on the street WhatsApp group that Rose realised Kooks had stopped at the exact destinations that they had stopped at.

Rose told YOU magazine that she felt sick when she discovered Kooks.

“I felt sick when I discovered I was responsible for the cat’s disappearance. I can’t believe she never got out, there must have been lots of cars and she was scared.”

Kooks was returned to Celeste and is unharmed.
