One of the stars of That 70s Show, Danny Masterson has been sentenced to 30 years to life in jail for the rapes of two women. The rapes took places 20 years ago.
The sentence was handed down by Los Angeles superior court judge Charlain F Olmedo last week after Masterson was found guilty of two counts of rape in May.
Prosecutors said that Masterson used his role in the Church of Scientology to avoid accountability for the attacks.
Before the sentence was handed down, the two victims were given the chance to share statements.
One of the victims said to Masterson “when you raped me, you stole from me. That’s what rape is, a theft of the spirit. You are pathetic, disturbed and completely violent. The world is better off with you in prison.”
The other victim said Masterson “has not shown an ounce of remorse for the pain he caused. I knew he belonged behind bars for the safety of all the women he came into contact with. I am so sorry, and I’m so upset. I wish I’d reported him sooner to the police.”
The women said Masterson gave them drinks and they became woozy or passed out before he violently raped him.
Actor couple Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis recently came under fire after it was reported their character letters of Masterson, who they starred opposite in the sitcom, caused pain for the victims.
In a statement, the couple said “we support victims, we have done this historically through our work and will continue to do so in the future.”
