DISNEYLAND ABU DHABI TO OPEN SOON
Disney has officially arrived in the Middle East. For the first time in 15 years, the Walt Disney Company is opening a new theme park.
The resort located in Abu Dhabi will be the seventh resort belonging to the US-based company.
With movies and merchandise being the main stream of income for several decades, the company’s theme parks have now taken over as the most important financial driver.
At a press conference to report its second quarter earnings, the company said that its theme parks around the world represented 59% of its operating income.
But the resort won’t open soon. According to Josh D’Amaro, the chairman of Disney Experiences, the park will only open in the early 2030s, but it will be something to look forward to.
“Every time we open a new experience or a theme park… It’s really important not just to take a theme park that might exist somewhere else and plant it into the ground in that new area that we would be going into.”
Disney said the Abu Dhabi resort will be its most technologically advanced park to date. It will also be the first Disney resort to be located directly on a waterfront.
