RABADA TESTS POSITIVE FOR DRUG USE
Proteas fast
bowler Kagiso Rabada has been banned from playing cricket for recreational drug
use.
At first,
the 29-year-old cited personal reasons for leaving the Indian Premier League
(IPL) prematurely.
Now, the
South African Cricketers’ Association released a statement saying the ban was
due to “an adverse analytical finding for the use of a recreational drug”.
This
resulted in Rabada’s suspension.
“I am
deeply sorry to all those that I have let down. I will never take the privilege
of playing cricket for granted. This privilege is much larger than me. It goes
beyond my personal aspirations.”
Rabada was
forced to return from playing only two matches for the Gujarat Titans in the IPL.
They have
four matches remaining in the league phase of the IPL which Rabada will most
likely miss as the statement didn’t identify for how long the ban is applicable
but based on the statement, he’ll return to play again.
"I am looking forward to returning to the game I love
playing.
“This moment will not define me. I will keep doing what I
have always done, continuously working hard and playing with passion and
devotion to my craft,” he added.
