ED SHEERAN FIRST WESTERN ARTIST TO PERFORM IN BHUTAN

Although he’s won several Grammys and has hit the number one spot on charts around the world more than a few times, there’s one thing that British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran hasn’t done yet.

No Western artist or band has ever performed in Bhutan.

Sheeran will perform live at the Changlimithang Stadium in the country’s capital. The concert in Thimpu will take place on 24 January 2025.

Bhutan is located between China and India. It’s a landlocked country with a Buddhist monarchy of about 700,000 people. Closed off from the world until the 1970s, Bhutan slowly but surely started to open to the world.

It’s still a very sacred place and authorities plan to keep it that way. One of the ways they keep tourists to a minimum is their high-value, low-impact tourism model.

Tourists are charged $100 per day to be in the country. The money is used to support Bhutanese public education and health care.

Sheeran announced the concert on his Instagram with the word “kuzuzampola” meaning “hello” in the country’s Dzongkha language.

“I’ve heard wonderful, wonderful things about Bhutan. “
