IRISH WOMEN MAKE FORTUNE BY RENTING OUT DRESSES

Two 20-somethings had a brainchild and now they’re making money as if it’s going out of fashion.

That’s the basic story behind Greens Are Good For You and the two women who started it all: Joanna Dooley and Kara O’Sullivan.

After realising young Irish people were yearning for more sustainable, circular retail options, they started their business offering people the chance to rent their clothes.

The start-up has now grown into a retail outlet as well as the need for rental clothing is growing by the day.

RTE reports that in 2021, the founders launched a clothing rental service, allowing customers to wear designer items for a more affordable price and avoiding ‘wear-once’ culture, thereby making these luxury pieces more accessible and less environmentally friendly.

Since it’s not the first of its kind in the country, the two women had to think of another way to stand out among the crowd. So, they came up with two: Colourful, trendy curation of its offering; and fun, eye-catching branding.

Realising that the festive season will be a busy time for them and that the need to try on the clothing increased, they opened up a retail store.

The store is located in Dublin and gives clients the chance to try on the items before renting them.
