MANIFESTING CAMBRIDGE’S WORD OF THE YEAR

It’s official! Manifest is the Cambridge Dictionary’s word of the year for 2024.

It’s obviously not a new word, but ‘manifest’ has become very popular over the last year. Singer Dua Lipa has often spoken about how she thinks manifestation has contributed to her success.

She said thanks to manifesting what she wanted out of life, she’s been more successful than ever. One of the things she manifested was that she wanted to play at the Glastonbury Festival this year and it happened.

American gymnast Simone Biles has also credited manifestation to her successful career.

“You have to write it down, you have to speak it into existence, you have to see it daily and then it usually happens.”

Still not sure what we’re talking about? According to the latest Cambridge Dictionary, manifest refers to the practice of using “methods such as visualization and affirmation to help you imagine achieving something you want, in the belief that doing so will make it more likely to happen”.

Other words on the shortlist included brat, ecotarian, and resilience.

Brat was chosen as Collins Dictionary’s word of the year.
