MASSIVE ERRORS IN MATRIC GEOGRAPHY PAPER CAUSES QUARANTINE
It’s been established that 967 matric candidates have been affected after several mistakes were found in the Geography paper 2.
The paper was administered by the South African Comprehensive Assessment Institute (SACAI).
The exam was meant to be written at 14:00 on Wednesday afternoon, but during the reading time before the official start, the blunder was noticed.
Discrepancies between the English and Afrikaans versions of the question paper were noticed and all 85 exam centres were notified. The differences amounted to 79 mars worth of incorrect questions.
This led to the quarantine of all the matric candidates who were waiting to write the paper.
IOL reports that a revised version was then printed and distributed to the affected candidates.
Chris Klopper, the acting CEO of SAICA, said the organisation has faced “justifiable serious beratement” from examination quality assured Umalasie in light of the incident.
“It is not acceptable to make such an error.”
A similar incident was highlighted earlier in the exams when the Independent Examinations Board’s (IEB) Physical Science (Chemistry) came under the spotlight.
After the exam, the IEB was faced with several complaints about misleading questions in the paper.
