MURRAY AND DJOKOVIC’S PATHS PART
Former rivals Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray have announced that their coaching relationship has come to an end.
Djokovic posted on his social media channels: “Thank you, coach Andy, for all the hard work, fun & support over the last six months on & off court. I really enjoyed deepening our friendship together.”
After retiring as a professional tennis player last year, Murray announced that he would be joining as a coach on Djokovic’s team.
The pair was off to a great start when Djokovic reached the semi-final round of the Australian Open. He had to retire due to an injury, and after that, never really got back to the level he reached in January.
In a statement released by Murray, the Scotsman said: “Thanks to Novak for the unbelievable opportunity to work together and thanks to his team for all their hard work over the past six months. I wish Novak all the best for the rest of the season.”
At the end of April, Djokovic pulled out of the Italian Open due to an injury. He accepted a wild card to play in the Geneva Open, which begins next week, but it’s not clear whether he will be fit enough to play in the French Open or Wimbledon this year.
