OZZY OSBOURNE INDUCTED INTO ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME
Arguably Birmingham’s most famous citizen, Ozzy Osbourne has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The 75-year-old accepted the award in front of a 20,000-strong crowd in Ohio on Saturday.
After actor and fellow rocker Jack Black presented Osbourne with the award, the Prince of Darkness had to scream to be heard above the cheers from the crowd who gave him a standing ovation.
“I’d like to thank whoever voted me into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for my solo work. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
Osbourne thanked his fans with a heartfelt tribute: “My fans have been so loyal to me over the years. I cannot thank them enough.”
Before he went solo, Osbourne was part of the heavy metal band Black Sabbath in 1979. During his speech, he honoured Randy Rhoads who helped him to become a successful solo artist.
“If I hadn’t met Randy Rhoads, I don’t think I’d be sitting here now.”
Other inductees who were honoured at the awards include Peter Frampton, Cher, Foreigner, A Tribe Called Quest, Mary J Blige, and the Dave Matthews Band.
