FISHER-PRICE RECALLS 2 MILLION INFANT SWINGS
Suffocation has been the reason why Fisher-Price’s United States office has made the decision to recall more than two million infant swings.
This was announced after it was reported that five children had died while they were sleeping in the device.
The deaths were reported between 2012 and 2022 and all the infants were between the ages of one and three months.
The recall doesn’t only affect one model as there are 21 models of the Snuga Swings forming part of the massive recall.
Fisher-Price, who forms part of the Mattel group, has said that people who decide to keep the Snug Swing should “immediately remove” the headrest and body support insert on the seat pad. Owners who choose to keep the swings and remove the headrest will receive a $25 refund.
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission has slammed Mattel’s decision to not recall the entire swing as they believe customers should be fully refunded.
A representative for the commission said that they “believe the flawed recall that Fisher-Price has announced is doomed to fail and will keep many babies in harm’s way”.
The commission advised that people get their $25 refund, but throw away the product.
