NADAL ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT
Tennis legend Rafael Nadal has announced his retirement from professional tennis.
The news was announced by Nadal in a video shared on his social media.
“I don’t think I have been able to play without limitations.
The 22-time Grand Slam champion will play his final match for Spain in The Davis Cup finals. The finals will take place in Malaga in November.
Known as the King of Clay, Nadal has won the French Open singles title a record 14 times. He is also the second-most successful men’s singles player of all time.
The most successful men’s singles player of all time is Nadal’s long-time opponent Novak Djokovic.
The Serbian sang Nadal’s praises on Instagram along with a selfie of the two players.
“One post is not enough to express the respect I have for you and what you have done for our sport.
“You have inspired millions of children to start playing tennis and I think that’s probably the greatest achievement anyone can wish for. Your tenacity, dedication, and fighting spirit are going to be taught for decades.”
Djokovic continued, wishing Nadal luck for the Davis Cup finals.
“Your passion for representing Spain has always been remarkable. I wish you the best possible farewell in Malaga with the Davis Cup team of Spain. I will be there in person to pay respect to your stellar career.”
