WORLD WAR TWO BOMBS EXPLODES ON JAPANESE RUNWAY

Only 60 seconds after a plane used a runway at Japan’s Miyazaki Airport, a bomb unexpectedly exploded.

The explosion blasted a hole of about seven metres wide and one metre deep in the runway.

Immediately after the explosion, more than 80 flights were cancelled.

According to Japan’s Land and Transport Ministry, no aircraft or people were nearby when the bomb exploded.

Although the transport minister said they couldn’t confirm when the bomb was dropped, local media reported it was likely during World War Two.

“There is no threat of a second explosion, and police and firefights are currently examining the scene”, said Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi.

The Sun reports that Miyazaki Airport was built in 1943 as a former Imperial Japanese Navy flight training field from which some kamikaze pilots took off on suicide attack missions.

The investigation is still ongoing although the airport has been opened again.
