PETITION TO STOP CHRIS BROWN FROM PERFORMING IN SA
Activists have started a petition to stop American singer Chris Brown from performing in Johannesburg at the end of the year.
Brown was arrested in 2009 for assaulting fellow singer Rihanna. At the time, the two singers were a couple. He was charged with felony assault and pleaded guilty.
In 2010, Brown was denied entry into the United Kingdom because of the assault case.
News24 reports that since then, Brown has had multiple assault charges and sexual assault allegations.
Now, Women For Change has called on Big Concerts and the SA Government to deny Brown entry into the country.
The non-profit organisation has started a petition on Change.org saying “his concert is scheduled just days after the global commemoration of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, making this event a direct insult to the millions of women and girls affected by violence in South Africa and worldwide”.
Tickets are selling like hotcakes and range from R515 to R 744.25. Big Concerts recently announced that an extra date has been added to Brown’s tour to South Africa “due to overwhelming demand”.
