SA OPEN MOVES TO STELLENBOSCH GOLF CLUB

Rainfall has forced the organisers of the South African Open to switch venues from next year.

The Open will move to the Stellenbosch Golf Club at the end of February 2026. This won’t be the first time the event will be held there as the Cape’s fourth oldest golf club hosted the SA Open in 1999.

The general manager of the Stellenbosch Golf Club, Chris van der Merwe, said the club was delighted to welcome the event back to its fairways.

“We are incredibly honoured to have been selected as the host venue for the 2026 South African Open and look forward to showcasing this prestigious championship as well as the beauty of Stellenbosch and the Cape winelands to a global audience.”

“We’re looking forward to what will be a wonderful next edition in the proud history of this great championship.”

News24 reports that the SA Open, which dates back to 1903, is rich with history, as it’s the second oldest national Open in golf behind the Open Championship.

The SA Open finished early this year as heavy rain and flooding forced organisers to cancel the fourth round, limiting the tournament to 54 holes.

Local player Dylan Naidoo was crowned the winner of this year’s tournament.
