WHATSAPP DOWN WORLDWIDE
The world’s favourite messaging platform experienced a worldwide outage on Friday, 28 February. While some users didn’t even notice the downtime, others took to the internet to complain about it.
Users began to report struggling to send or receive messages at around 17:45 South African time. Although it seems as if the platform was up and running again only 15 minutes later, the cause of the downtime wasn’t made public.
Unfortunately, it seems as if the restoration of the service wasn’t as smooth as Meta had hoped. Some users were lucky enough to have their services restored quickly, while others experienced long delays of up to 25 minutes, although reports vary on the longest downtime.
This was the second outage in three months as WhatsApp’s owner, Meta Platforms, experienced a major outage in December as well. At the time, the five-hour outage affected not only WhatsApp but also Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and Messenger.
At the time of writing this article, the reason for the downtime on Friday was still unclear.
