BABOONS SWIMMING IN POOL VIDEO GOES VIRAL
Everyone knows that February in Cape Town is hot. Extremely hot. And of course, no chance of rain. So, when someone gets a chance to cool down by taking a dip in a pool, they’re going to take it.
That’s exactly what a troop of baboons did when they recently took a dip in Cape Town resident Ciara Barry’s backyard pool.
Barry described the video as “the calm before the storm” and posted on TikTok that there were 18 baboons in total roaming around her house.
In the video, three of the baboons can be seen jumping and backflipping into the pool, just like humans would do.
Barry said that this isn’t the first time it has happened.
“When they come to visit, we stay indoors and lock all the doors and windows until the baboon monitors arrive to escort them away.”
The funny video went viral pretty quickly and generated some quirky responses.
One user, @braveliam24 said: “Backflipping into your pool is disrespectful. 😂😂😂.”
Baboons roaming through suburbs isn’t new to residents of the Mother City. Over the years, the City of Cape Town has implemented various measures to manage interactions between humans and baboons while both prioritising the conservation of the baboons and the safety of the community.
