SECOND BTS MEMBER ENLISTS

It doesn’t matter who you are, what you do for a living or who you know… If you’re from South Korea and under a certain age, you will enlist for military service.

The K-pop band BTS, even though they’ve gained worldwide recognition and multi-platinum singles, is no exception. In South Korea, all able-bodied men must serve at least 18 months in the military, no matter who they are.

The latest member to enlist for South Korean military service is J-Hope. He is the second member to enlist and at the age of 29, he is the oldest member in the band.

J-Hope was scheduled to begin his basic training at an army boot camp in Gangwon province earlier this week. The basic training lasts five weeks.

To celebrate the send-off, he posted pics of himself on Weverse, China’s most popular social media platform. The photos featured his new buzz cut required by the army and the following caption: “I love you, ARMY. I’ll go and come back safely!”

The band’s agency made it clear that the enlistment won’t be an official BTS event.

“Please note that there will be no official event on the day of his entry. The entrance ceremony is a time to be observed by military personnel and their families only… Fans are advised to refrain from visiting the site.”
