SHOPRITE LAUNCHES CLOTHING BRAND

The Shoprite Group has announced that it has opened its first clothing store in Cape Town’s Canal Walk.

UNIQ will focus on providing customers with simplicity, comfort, superior fabrics and value as the groceries retailer crosses the border into the clothing market.

South Africa’s biggest retailer said UNIQ will cater for the entire family and consist of premium basics sold in various fabrics. The idea behind it is that the items should be easy to mix and match.

Over the next month, there are eight more stores scheduled to open across the country offering womenswear, menswear, children’s basics, t-shirts, puffer jackets, and underwear for both men and women.

Business Tech reports that UNIQ will be the first South African clothing retailer to introduce Supima cotton to the mass market, which is stronger, softer and absorbs colour better than regular cotton.

Something that will make UNIQ truly unique is that all the stores will offer self-service checkout with smart stages and frequency identification. This will allow customers to scan and pay for items easily.
