SA CHEF WINS MICHELIN GREEN STAR

Hylton Epsey has been awarded a Michelin Green Star. Epsey is the owner of Culture, a restaurant located in Falmouth, United Kingdom.

The South African started out as a chef at Olympia Café in Kalk Bay and quickly became one of the biggest names in South African chef circles.

He opened Culture in July 2022 and it was listed in the Michelin Guide that same year.

“We were on our way to South Africa when we received the invitation to attend the awards and immediately changed our flights.

“Attending the event was a surreal experience and a dream come true. I watch the awards every year and it was amazing to be in the room with all of the United Kingdom’s best chefs.”

According to the Michelin Guide, a Michelin Green Star is an annual award which highlights restaurants at the forefront of the industry when it comes to their sustainable practices.

Epsey told News24 that winning the Green Star is a “career dream come true”.

“Our business is only a fledgling and his award is really going to help cement us in the UK dining scene.”
