SNOW EXPECTED IN GAUTENG NEXT WEEK
A powerful cold front has been predicted for the capital city next week. But, to add some cheer to the big freeze ahead, forecasters say there might even be some snow in parts of Gauteng.
A chilly breeze will set in from today, thanks to a high-pressure system. The weekend will give Gauteng a bit of a break before the big chill sets in next week.
“Over the weekend, temperatures are expected to recover to around 20°C, but a strong cold front is forecast to move across the country. Behind this front, there’s a possibility that a strong cut-off low-pressure system could develop, which may bring rain to Gauteng on Monday,” said Michelle du Plessis from VOX Weather.
Currently, du Plessis says, snow is expected to fall in parts of Gauteng on Monday, but warned that this could change as weather patterns are often unpredictable.
“It’s important to note that these models can change — we’ve seen in the past that snow is predicted one day and disappears from the forecast the next.”
While those living in the southern parts of the country may be more accustomed to snowfall during winter, the last time snow fell in Gauteng was in 2023, in Johannesburg.
