TEENAGER WOUNDS 3 PEOPLE IN TIMES SQUARE
Three people were wounded when a 17-year-old opened fire in New York City’s Times Square on Saturday. Several others had to be taken to the hospital to attend to their injuries.
A video was shared on social media showing people screaming and running away from the scene at around 1:20 AM. Some police officers could also be seen surrounding a car while others attended to the wounded on the ground.
The teenager was arrested on the scene by the New York Police Department (NYPD) and held in custody. The NYPD confirmed that the teenager has been charged with murder for shooting his target and wounding two bystanders.
The three victims were a 19-year-old man who was shot in the foot, an 18-year-old woman who was grazed in the neck, and a 65-year-old man who was shot in the leg.
Gun violence in the city has dropped 23% since last year at this time. The results are due to the city’s ban on firearms from what is known as sensitive locations, like all forms of public transportation, schools, hospitals and Times Square.
The city also requires fun owners to prove “good moral character”.
