TYLA WINS HER FIRST GRAMMY

South African music sensation Tyla has won the African Music Performance Grammy award.

The awards took place in Los Angeles on Sunday.

The 22-year-old won the coveted award for her song ‘Water’.

Tyla caught the attention of her now manager and creative director Garth von Glehn when she posted videos of her doing covers on Instagram.

During post-Grammy interviews, the singer shared her thoughts on the importance of education.

“School is important, is the foundation. Though I didn’t study further after high school I made sure to finish high school. If you have other things you want to do, you are able to balance it. I’ve done it, a lot of people have done it.”

She started making waves in the international entertainment industry when she signed with the American label Epic Records in 2021.

Other winners at the 2024 Grammy Awards include Taylor Swift who walked away with the Album Of The Year award, Miley Cyrus who won ‘Record Of The Year’ and Billie Eilish who won ‘Song Of The Year’.

Tyla wasn’t the only South African to feature on the night. Local comedian and talk show host Trevor Noah hosted the event.
