F1’S HAMILTON LEAVES MERCEDES FOR FERRARI

Formula 1 enthusiasts around the world got a shock this morning when it was announced that Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton will be leaving the team for Ferrari.

The move will only take place in 2025 due to contractual restrictions with Mercedes. He signed a two-year deal in 2022.

Although no formal announcement has been made around the British driver’s departure, it’s believed the Mercedes team is to be briefed this afternoon. The brief will be followed by a formal announcement by Toto Wolff.

Thejudge13.com reports that Ferrari has only confirmed the extension of Charles Leclerc’s contract, leaving the future of Carlos Sainz, whose contract expires at the end of 2024, uncertain. This decision seems to have been influenced by Hamilton’s potential involvement with the team.

Hamilton was part of the Mercedes team for 12 years and has won seven World Drivers’ Championship titles. The 39-year-old holds the record for the most wins, pole positions, and podium finishes.

The 2024 F1 season kicks off on 1 March in Bahrain.
