2025 TAX SEASON IS HERE
The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has announced the start of the 2025 tax season. From 7 July to 20 October, income-tax returns can be submitted by non-provisional individual taxpayers.
SARS also announced that during this tax season, some individuals will be auto-assessed. Those individuals who have been chosen for the auto-assessment will be notified by SARS, while those who haven’t been chosen have to file their tax returns from 21 July.
Taxpayers who are happy with their auto-assessment don’t have to do anything, as any refunds owed to them will be paid by SARS.
Taxpayers who aren’t happy with the outcome of their auto-assessment can appeal and submit supportive documentation through e-Filing.
Provisional taxpayers can submit their returns between 21 July 2025 and 19 January 2026.
Trust can start filing tax returns from 20 September 2025 until 19 January 2026.
SARS has called on South African taxpayers to ensure their banking details are correct and updated. This will allow for the efficient processing of refunds.
Taxpayers of the opinion that SARS has not captured all the necessary information are free to make changes on their tax returns and submit the missing information through eFiling by October 20.
